For the travel experience I curated around Afropunk Brooklyn 2018, my goal was to celebrate Black art, fashion, and food with local Brooklyn writers, designers, and restaurateurs. On day one of the five day long weekend, we visited 4 locally-owned boutiques, including the ever-stylish, Marche Rue Dix.

Owners Nilea Alexander and her husband, Lamine Diagne, already owned the popular French-Senegalese restaurant next door, Cafe Rue Dix (more on that below!) when they decided to open this contemporary vintage boutique and marketplace. Here, they stock a curated assortment of vintage clothing, jewelry, and home goods as well as imported coffees, teas, spices and all natural skin and hair care products. They also feature some of the most innovative designers and creatives in Brooklyn and beyond for new fashion collaborations. And, as if you needed any more reason to visit Marche, they’ve added a luxury, full-service nail studio to their offering, specializing in art, enhancements, and overall nail health.

Though we could’ve shopped for hours (and hours!), we ended the night with dinner next door. With their all day menu, Cafe Rue Dix prides themselves on using fresh ingredients and bold spices to create some of the best Franco-Senegalese dishes in NYC. Pictured below: Grilled Salmon & Attieke - grilled wild salmon, served with grilled kale, attiéké and onions; Branzino Grille - grilled whole sea bass, onion confit and sweet plantains; Kale Zinger with avocado and a basil dressing. See the full menu here. I may or may not have eaten it all 🤭🤤.
